When do you write? #writetip My dog (updated cruising with dogs today) hasn’t noticed the water is cold or that it’s Friday. He doesn’t know we’re preparing to go cruising for the winter. And he doesn’t feel guilty about not writing.
I read somewhere once that “writing is like having homework for the rest of your life.” How true. To overcome this feeling, I write Monday to Friday and take the weekend off. Because I’m not trying to get words on the page every day of the week, my mind relaxes and sometimes a plot issue solves itself or the next scene pops into my head.
Everyone has different writing times. Find yours, but also find your time off.
I can’t get time off. I need time on! My time for writing has just changed. I have too much school work to do in the afternoo, so I get up early to get ready quick and write before I cycle to the station. I’ve always preferred writing in the morning, when ideas are freshest and you’re closest to when you were dreaming. Feels like I’m still suspended somewhere else. All my good ideas come to me in the morning, on the train or walking through town. Thanks for this post. I like to hear how other writers write.

Thanks for your comment. If times get really hectic, I get up at 4 a.m. and write till 8 a.m. Ideas do seem to come early in the morning, but I find it hard to keep this up for too long. Good luck finding your time on.

I plan what I want to write on my commute to and from work. I create the ideas on the way home from work, detail them out on the way to work, and actually type them out on my lunch break. I really don’t have any other free time in my life to devote to writing. If I did, I’d have finished this novel a year ago!

Jennifer, It’s great that you’re making time.I don’t think it matters how long it takes to write a novel, just that you’re writing one. I know I’m happiest when I write.
