Farley’s Friday: Puppy Days

Farley here,

Sometimes Kristina likes to look at pictures of me when I was a puppy. Check out the “stick” I’m playing with.

Kristina threw it and said, “Fetch.”

I trotted after it, lay down, and chewed it. Like I’d pick something up and bring it back to her. No matter how hard she tried, I wouldn’t return with the stick. Finally I told her, ” It’s a twig not a stick.”

She laughed. “Come on, Farley. You can do it.”

Of course I could. But would I chose to? That’s the important question.

I think I was pretty cute and wagged my tail at her. No fetching a twig for me. And just so you know, to this day, I’ve never fetched a stick.

Farley’s Friday: Where’s the snow?

Farley here,

I’m so confused. Last November there was snow on the ground. I love snow, and I can’t find it. Every morning I head outside and check if it arrived during the night. And every morning I find green grass.

I’m ready for winter. I’ve got my booties cleaned and stacked by the door. There are extra towels to dry me off with. My blanket it ready by the fire.

Could someone call the weather people and tell them to send snow my way?

Farley’s Friday: What’s In The Seaweed

Farley here,

Have you ever seen this much seaweed? And how many dogs does it take to pick up a stick?

Farley Seaweed 2

I met two new dogs at the beach. The big one is named Butter. I have no idea who the middle dog is, but she wanted my stick. It got buried in seaweed, and  seaweed is gooey and very slippery.

I had the best angle, but Butter was quicker. She grabbed the stick, leaving the two of us to chase her. By the end of the game, we were all covered in seaweed, which sticks to your hair, by the way.

This seaweed is very confusing. Some days we go to the beach, and there is none. Other days, the sand is covered. But either way, I think I love the beach.

Farley’s Friday: Off Leash Dog Play

Farley here,

I’ve got a new friend! Murphy is a big dog who loves to run. He’s pretty young, so he kinda tired me out.

But wow, he was fun in the park. Now that I see his photo, he looks like a black wolf. I saw one once, so I know what they look like. But I wasn’t afraid. I charged forward and tackled him.

After playing hard, we found a cool spot to relax in the shade. Kristina and Mathew wanted to keep going, but the three of us (Murphy, Piper, and I)  just said no. We needed time to recover from the big run, so they would just have to wait.

Piper even kept up with us. Piper is one week younger than me and was born a block from where I was born on Vancouver Island, so we are literally life long friends.

Farley’s Friday: Early Morning Beach Run

Farley here,

Did you know older dogs sometimes don’t like to play with puppies? I don’t understand that.

Check out this puppy I met at the beach. The thing you have to understand about puppies is they jump on you, bite you, paw at you and chase you.

Their sharp teeth can sting a little, but there’s not much power in the bite. That’s the down side. The fun comes with the excitement a puppy exudes when playing. I can’t resist.

The humans standing around always praise me and comment on how patient I am. I love the praise, so a nip here and there are worth it.

Bring on the puppies!

Farley’s Friday: Can a dog help a human write?

Farley here,

Did you know it takes a human a long time to write a novel?

Kristina is working on a novel she’s calling EVOLUTION. She says there are several dogs in this book. One of them is a wheaten terrier, just like me.

“Is his name Farley,” I woof.

“Nope,” Kristina says. “Farley was in BLAZE, so he can’t be in EVOLUTION. The dog’s name is Jasper.”

I sigh. I don’t see why my name can’t be used in all her books and not just BLAZE.

She’s typing words, but I want to go for a walk. I figure if I sit on her, she’ll work faster.

Not sure my theory is working…

Farley’s Friday: Dog Sitting – Is it for you?

Farley here,

Kristina likes to dog sit, but I think she should ask me first.  Our neighbors have a 4 month  old Doodle, Moca, and he’s one crazy dog.

He comes over, jumps on my back, bites my face, and chases my tail. Yes, I meant that. He chases MY tail, not his.

Kristina distracted him for a minute, so I got to sniff him. But then it was back to hard playing.

Farley and Moca

I’m happy when we dog sit older dogs who like to go for a run, then lie around and relax in the dog bed. This puppy thing is a bit too crazy for me.

I know Kristina. If anyone asks her to dog sit, she’ll be happy to. She says it’s her way of having two dogs. Now why would she want two dogs when she has me? I can’t think of a single reason.

Farley’s Friday: A Dog Goes Shopping

Farley here,

I’m Kristina’s strongest advocate when it comes to selling her books. Because I’m so good at it, she takes me along when she visits retail outlets.

This week, my friend for life, Finnur, is staying with us ,so he got to come along, too. I had to teach him how to behave in the General Store.

Last week the General Store sold 30 copies of Kristina’s books, so we had to restock the shelves.  We entered the store and needed to talk to the person working behind the counter. What Finnur didn’t know is the person always gives me a cookie if I behave.

I told Finnur to sit and wag his tail.

He did.

I told him to put on his cutest, you-must-give-me-a-cookie face.

He did that, too. Finnur is a good listener when it comes to getting treats.

Dogs at General Store

And aren’t we the cutest? Wouldn’t you buy books from us?

Well the guy behind the counter thought so, and we sold him another box full of all three books.

Phew…A hard days work.
